| CHIANTI
The area of Chianti, with its magnificent hilly landscape, is set in the heart of Tuscany. As to administrative organization, it depends on two provinces: Florence adn Siena.
During the Middle Age, the two towns fought fiercely one against the other for the conquest of this area till 1555 when the Medicis imposed their dominion on the whole Tuscany.
It is difficult to trace the border of Chianti, because only the mountains of Chianti, set in the east, separate the area from the upper Valdarno; the remaining part of Chianti reaches the hills of Arbia, of Elsa, of Greve and Pesa.
Medieval villages, castles, abbies, monasteries, cottages, villas follow one another in marvellous itinerary which points out human activity and creativity. Throughout the centuries, man has transformed the hills of this region, where vineyards, olive groves, woods create such a unique and harmonious landscape you cannot sely find anywhere in the world.
